Epitome Software Core Company Values
In talking about who we are and what we do, we feel it is also important to make brief reference to the core values that are an integral part of our overall corporate ethos. Values that we express in terms of integrity, quality and value.
Integrity …
When you get too much change at the supermarket, and you give it back, that’s integrity. When – despite the fact it may lose you the sale – you restrain yourself from making the same promises that everyone else does, because you know it’s really not that easy, that’s integrity.
Integrity is that character that determines you will do what is right regardless of the personal cost. It is a refusal to misrepresent oneself, or the products one represents, for the sake of short term gain.
It is what a person needs when there is a temptation to misrepresent things to win or save a deal.
It’s being able to say ‘you can rely on me’ and genuinely mean it so the customer will not be let down.
Quality …
A shirt might be termed ‘quality’ where bits of cotton don’t hang loose from the buttons when you unwrap it. A Christmas gift might be called ‘quality’ where the name doesn’t rub off after two days use.
But real quality is only seen after the event. When it becomes obvious to the user that the product is standing up well after its expected ‘used by’ date has passed.
Where a shovel has had to work harder than you intended but is still showing little sign of wear. When a house isn’t cracking although the foundations were poured 50 years ago. Or a wine or a software package that keeps getting better with age. That’s quality.
Value …
It’s often been said that price is what you pay, but that value is what you get.
So an ice cream for 40 cents is good value. The presidential suite at a five star hotel for $300 a night is good value. To the purchaser they are receiving what they want at a price that will not be significantly bettered elsewhere.
Value also has to do with ensuring that what is provided meets or exceeds expectations.
And in software (as with much everything else) value additionally means that there will be no unpleasant surprises later provided the purchaser has been clear about what they really wanted in the first place.
